The Bridge of Clay is Also one of the bestseller book by Markus Zusak.
The story is set in Germany in war time. We all know that the war situation is not good for anyone. Everyone suffers from the both sides. In this critical situation some people still be able to find little happiness in their life. They start enjoying little things.
The book thief is the story of a little girl who lost her family and adopted by a couple, her new parents. In this critical situation how the bonding between the girl and her father is interesting.
The book Thief doesn't filled with those joyful moments but it will teach you how to find peace and happiness even in worst situation.
The little girl starts liking book reading. Her thirst for books is so increased that she starts stealing books. She is not stealing these books randomly.
Every book she steals talks about her life. By connecting all these book titles you end up with gathering her life events together.
There is also a movie made on The book Thief in 2013.

Overview

The book Thief is an international best sellers. The story is set in Germany. This book will definitely break your heart. This is the story of a young girl Liesel Meminger. The story starts with the death of her younger brother Werner.
Liesel steals her brother's book after his death. The story further moves in a fictional town Molching on Himmel street.
The book is all based on fictional concepts. But when I started reading book, I was connected with the story, and the experience was amazing. You can't tell the difference. The book is on fiction or its real.
The book Thief has an interesting character "Death". This character narrates the story.
The whole story of The book Thief is from the point of view of deaths. I appreciate the creativity of Author Markus Zusak. How he divided different chapters or we can say how he structured the book in different chapters (headings or titles of different books Liesel steals) is appreciable.
The plot of this book is too faint. I couldn't read this book in just once ( also the book has total 552 pages, and I am not the person who can read such a huge book in once ).
It took me days to finish this book. I was getting bored while reading this book. It is not because of the plot only, for me the book is very lengthy.
The book is divided into 80 chapters under 10 major headings. Yes its a huge number. Each chapter represents the part of Liesel's life. Like Her First Kiss, Joy of Cigarettes, Dead Letters, The book of Fire etc. Each of these chapters express what's happening in Liesel's life.
What path she's moving on? Where does this path leading her? Will she lost in the darkness? Or will she fight with all these? What is going to Happen with Death?

Weakness of The Book Thief

  • The story of The book thief is very faint. Yes there are few moments of joy but overall it's not that joyful.
  • I think the plot of the book moves slowly, it could be kind of boring for some readers.

Strengths of The Book Thief

  • It is the story of a strong girl, who lost her family.
  • Her younger brother died infront of her eyes. Still she overcomes from all such events.
  • How a little girl can face critical problems in her life is what readers must notice.
  • Her hunger for reading different books is also a great thing.

I liked few sayings from The book Thief

  • I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant
  • The only thing worse than a boy who hates you: a boy that loves you
  • Like most misery, it started with apparent happiness
  • It kills me sometimes, how people die
  • Imagine smiling after a slap in the face. Then think of doing it twenty-four hours a day"
  • I am haunted by humans
  • I wanted to tell the book thief many things, about beauty and brutality. But what could I tell her about those things that she didn't already know? I wanted to explain that I am constantly overestimating and underestimating the human race-that rarely do I ever simply estimate it. I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so damning and brilliant
  • He does something to me, that boy. Every time. It’s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry
There are many more, but for this review these are enough.

Short Summary of The book Thief

Overall the book is good. Narration from the Deaths point of view is something different.
The book is emotional but still it has few joyful moments.
The characters of Death and Liesel are well written and are build perfectly by Markus Zusak.
